I will never forget, when I first did a promotional event for the first release of the site - Julian Cundiff came up to me and asked "So What is Fish Captures then?" Like it was a product that would help you put more fish on the bank or something.
Well he wasn't far wrong, it has put people on the bank, but I have never really thought of it as a product, just a project born from my own passion for angling and an idea for a resource that I really want to see grow and I think anglers will find genuinly useful.
In a nutshell - it is a place to record fish captures in detail - both for anglers and venue owners.
As a lifelong angler and an experienced web developer, I now have the time and dedication to make this happen - especially now I only work during school term time. Plenty of sites come and go but I am in it for the long haul. I don't want to make any money from it so business listings will be free for as long as humanly possible. If perks come my way in the form of a few ads, day tickets or sponsorship of some kind then great - it will help pay for my fishing, my efforts and the hosting - but right now - it is completeley free to all.
So the main work I have other than programming is building up the database. Here is the deal - you keeping adding your fish captures - keep them private if you want, just keep coming back to visit and I will get busy researching and adding venues and other business listings.
If you own or run a venue you want to promote then please register and fill out the online form and I will do my best to get your page up and running as soon as possible. If I have already listed your business and you would like access to edit the page - just let me know via the contact page and I will get back to you.
The first version launched almost 20 years ago had stopped working quite a while ago after a platform update and I just did not have time to fix the bugs, but now a new job role has given me the opportunity to put things right. In fact I have totally rebuilt it from the ground up. I have put everything I know about web development into it, from looking after mobile platforms to Mulimeda Communication principles (which I have a First Class BA in). This version is technically a massive improvment using MVC OOP PHP, JQuery Modals and a Responsive Boostrap Framework. Which basically means it is built well and should work on mobile and desktop devices equally well.
I will be constantly refining things so if you do spot any bugs or have ideas you would like to see - please do let me know.
I hope you have fun with the site and tight lines out there, Kieron Axten - Fish Captures.
